Brown was seen leaving the Patriots locker room in a walking boot on his right foot after missing New England’s opener with a right ankle injury.

The boot represents a meaningful escalation from simply being ruled out. It confirms Brown required postgame immobilization, increasing concern about his availability beyond Week 1. It does not, however, confirm a high-ankle sprain or establish a multi-week absence. New England has not announced a diagnosis or recovery timetable.

If Brown misses additional time, Romeo Doubs and DeMario Douglas become the clearest beneficiaries in the Patriots passing game. Brown’s absence would also lower the ceiling of Drake Maye by removing one of his primary receiving weapons.

Brown remains too valuable to make a reactionary move before the Patriots provide additional medical information. Managers should move Doubs and Douglas up their contingency boards, but there is not enough information yet to make an aggressive long-term move based solely on the walking boot.

Brown was ruled out of the opener because of a right ankle injury and underwent X-rays. After the game, he was observed leaving the locker room wearing a walking boot on the injured foot.

Mike Vrabel did not provide an additional diagnosis or timetable after the game.

The next meaningful update is whether additional testing identifies structural damage and whether Brown can return to practice ahead of Week 2.
