The 49ers officially placed Ricky Pearsall on injured reserve, and the former first-round receiver will undergo PCL surgery and miss the entire 2026 season. San Francisco immediately brought Deebo Samuel Sr. back on a one-year contract after his season in Washington. Samuel returned to practice Saturday after recording 72 receptions, 727 yards and five receiving touchdowns for the Commanders in 2025.

The move would already be significant by itself, but San Francisco’s remaining receiving group is also dealing with early-camp interruptions. Mike Evans missed Monday’s practice with a quad issue, Christian Kirk remained sidelined with a calf injury, and De’Zhaun Stribling was out with a hamstring injury. George Kittle opened camp on Active/PUP while recovering from his Achilles injury.

Samuel is the clearest stock-up player in the San Francisco passing game. He does not automatically return to his old peak role, but the path to meaningful touches has widened substantially.

The 49ers did not bring him back merely to provide veteran depth. Pearsall is unavailable, several other receivers are temporarily sidelined, and Samuel already understands the offense, the terminology and how Kyle Shanahan manufactures touches.

Brock Purdy still has a potentially strong collection of weapons, but the group is suddenly carrying more health uncertainty than it did entering camp. Purdy’s value should not collapse, although his ceiling now depends heavily on Evans, Kirk and Kittle progressing without additional setbacks.

Christian McCaffrey remains the safest offensive investment because his rushing and receiving involvement does not depend on one specific receiver being healthy.

Samuel’s return is more than a reunion story.

It is an opportunity story.

His ADP should rise, but managers should not pay for the 2021 version of Deebo. The better approach is to price him as a versatile veteran who has unexpectedly moved closer to the center of a high-value offense.

Trey Benson has missed multiple practices after experiencing a flare-up in the left knee that required surgery. Coach Mike LaFleur said Benson had been improving and stringing together productive practices before the setback, but Arizona plans to remain cautious. The Cardinals also claimed Evan Hull to add depth.

The rest of the backfield is not providing much clarity.

Tyler Allgeier has been receiving the first-team work. Rookie Jeremiyah Love has consistently mixed in and displayed notable burst. James Conner has not yet participated in 11-on-11 work, while Allgeier and Love are not expected to play in Thursday’s Hall of Fame Game.

This is no longer a backfield in which fantasy managers can confidently identify one inexpensive handcuff behind Conner.

Arizona has an established veteran in Conner; a proven NFL runner in Allgeier; a premium rookie talent in Love; and Benson attempting to regain his footing following another knee interruption.

Love has the strongest long-term ceiling, but Allgeier’s first-team usage cannot be dismissed. Benson’s health concern makes him increasingly difficult to draft unless his price falls substantially.

Conner remains capable of leading the group early, but his absence from full-team work and the organization’s investment in the position make his workload less secure than it once appeared.

The Cardinals may eventually produce one valuable fantasy running back.

Right now, however, they have four recognizable backs competing for portions of the same opportunity.

The winner may not be determined during the first week of August. Draft cost must therefore carry more weight than name recognition.

Seattle’s backfield has been completely reshaped. Kenneth Walker III departed in free agency, while Zach Charbonnet remains on PUP recovering from the ACL injury he suffered during the postseason. The Seahawks have indicated Charbonnet is unlikely to be ready for the beginning of the season, although he has not officially been ruled out.

That has opened the competition for first-round rookie Jadarian Price, George Holani and free-agent addition Emanuel Wilson. Seattle’s camp coverage has noted that all three backs have produced encouraging plays as runners and receivers, and Price has continued receiving meaningful work with the offense.

Price now has one of the clearest rookie opportunity paths in the NFC West.

The Seahawks may still use multiple backs rather than committing to a traditional workhorse, but Price has the draft capital, explosiveness and availability to earn the opening-week lead role.

Holani should not be ignored. He impressed the coaching staff before Price arrived and gained valuable postseason experience after Charbonnet was injured. Wilson also gives Seattle an experienced alternative.

The competition remains active, but this is no longer merely a developmental season for Price. He could be asked to contribute immediately.

Price is the division’s strongest camp-driven rookie riser.

That does not make him a guaranteed bell cow. It makes him the player with the best combination of talent, opportunity and uncertainty that could still break favorably.

His ADP should rise, but managers must leave room for a committee and Charbonnet’s eventual return.

Matthew Stafford produced two of the most important offensive plays during the Rams’ eighth training-camp practice: an over-the-shoulder touchdown to Davante Adams against a blitz and a back-shoulder touchdown to Puka Nacua. Stafford and both receivers continued responding after the Rams’ talented secondary made plays against them earlier in the session.

Stafford is coming off a 2025 season in which he threw for 4,707 yards and 46 touchdowns. The early connection with Nacua and Adams suggests that the offense’s two primary receivers are already functioning as complementary weapons rather than competing pieces that require an extended adjustment period.

Nacua remains an elite first-round fantasy target. Adams’ presence may reduce the need to force every high-value opportunity toward Nacua, but it should also make the offense more difficult to defend and create additional scoring possessions.

Adams continues to carry strong touchdown upside because Stafford trusts veteran receivers in isolated situations and near the end zone.

Stafford remains a strong later-round quarterback option. He may not provide rushing production, but his supporting cast and touchdown environment give him legitimate weekly ceiling.

This is not a situation in which fantasy managers need to choose between Nacua and Adams succeeding.

The larger question is whether Stafford can remain healthy enough to support two premium receivers throughout the season.

When Stafford is operating at full strength, the Rams’ passing game has Nuclear potential.

Seattle’s offense has reportedly performed much better against its defense than it did at the same point last summer. Sam Darnold connected with Rashid Shaheed on a long touchdown Monday, while Cooper Kupp caught two red-zone touchdowns during Tuesday’s practice. The offense struggled more against Seattle’s starting defense Tuesday, but the overall camp performance has reflected stronger continuity.

There is still an important change to monitor. Brian Fleury is replacing Klint Kubiak as offensive coordinator and will call plays in the NFL for the first time. Seattle intends to maintain substantial continuity from last year’s system while allowing Fleury to introduce his own concepts.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba remains the passing game’s foundation after his Offensive Player of the Year season. Kupp’s early red-zone success is encouraging, but it also demonstrates that Seattle has another receiver Darnold can trust in scoring territory.

Shaheed provides the field-stretching element that can create Boom weeks without requiring massive volume.

The more crowded distribution lowers the likelihood that every Seattle receiver consistently commands elite weekly volume, but it may strengthen Darnold’s overall efficiency and scoring potential.

Smith-Njigba remains the alpha.

Kupp does not need to overtake him to become a useful fantasy player. His red-zone intelligence and third-down reliability can create value even if his total target count is lower than it was during his peak Rams seasons.

Fleury’s play-calling remains the unknown variable. The personnel looks strong enough for the transition to succeed, but it must still be proven during actual games.

Rookie Carson Beck will start Thursday’s Hall of Fame Game, while regular-season starter Jacoby Brissett and Gardner Minshew II are unlikely to play. Beck has primarily worked with Arizona’s third unit since Brissett returned to full-team activity, making the preseason opener an evaluation opportunity rather than an indication that the starting quarterback job has changed.

Brissett produced two notable connections during Monday’s practice. He found Marvin Harrison Jr. for a diving gain of more than 50 yards during a two-minute drill and later connected with Trey McBride for a touchdown. Michael Wilson did not practice Monday, although the reason was not immediately established.

Harrison’s downfield play is encouraging because Arizona needs him to become more than a possession-based receiver. His fantasy ceiling depends on earning explosive opportunities and touchdowns, not merely collecting short receptions.

McBride remains the safest Arizona receiving investment. His role should be less sensitive to weekly quarterback volatility because he can function as a chain mover, middle-of-the-field target and red-zone option.

Beck is primarily a dynasty watch rather than a redraft target. Thursday provides the first meaningful opportunity to evaluate how quickly he processes an NFL defense and commands the offense.

Arizona does not need Brissett to become a fantasy star.

It needs him to consistently deliver the football to Harrison and McBride while keeping the offense functional. Early camp flashes are encouraging, but the preseason and joint practices will provide a more useful test.

Kyren Williams remains the leader of the Rams’ backfield after producing 1,252 rushing yards, 10 rushing touchdowns, 281 receiving yards and three receiving scores in 2025.

However, Blake Corum established himself as a legitimate complementary runner last season, playing 30.5 percent of the offensive snaps. The Rams credited the Williams-Corum rotation with keeping both players efficient, and Williams has said Corum appears leaner and more explosive during this year’s camp.

Williams remains the preferred draft target because he owns the stronger scoring role and receiving résumé.

Managers should not project him for complete backfield control, however. Corum earned a real role in 2025, and the Rams have reasons to preserve Williams over a long season.

Corum is more than a conventional injury-only handcuff. He could produce usable weeks without Williams missing a game and would carry significant upside if Williams were unavailable.

Draft Williams for the lead role.

Draft Corum because the secondary role already exists.

Rams tight end Davis Allen has missed four consecutive practices with a quad injury. Sean McVay said the team will give him time and will not rush a soft-tissue injury, although Allen remains expected to be an important component of the offense. The absence creates additional camp repetitions for Terrance Ferguson and the rest of the tight-end room.

Ferguson immediately provided a glimpse of that opportunity. After dropping a Stafford pass during Monday’s practice, Stafford returned to him on the next play, and Ferguson completed a strong contested catch over the middle.

In Seattle, second-year tight end Elijah Arroyo has produced multiple strong practices, including a 35-yard touchdown from Darnold. AJ Barner has also returned after undergoing two offseason procedures.

Neither situation has created a standard-league draft priority yet.

Ferguson and Arroyo belong on the deep-sleeper and dynasty radar because both are earning meaningful passing-game opportunities inside productive offenses.

BIJAN’S HOLD-IN ENDS

Atlanta agreed to a three-year extension with Bijan Robinson worth up to $75 million, ending his camp hold-in. The Falcons plan to ramp him up cautiously, but the contract removes the only meaningful non-football concern surrounding one of fantasy football’s safest elite selections.

FAZE Action: Hold Bijan firmly among the first overall selections.

GIBBS REMAINS OUT

Jahmyr Gibbs missed his sixth consecutive Detroit practice Tuesday as his contract hold-in continued. The two sides remain engaged in extension discussions, while Dan Campbell said the back issue Gibbs experienced during conditioning was not considered severe.

FAZE Action: Do not move Gibbs down significantly yet, but continue monitoring. Every additional missed week becomes more relevant as drafts approach.

PHILADELPHIA RECEIVER WATCH

DeVonta Smith and first-round rookie Makai Lemon are sidelined with hamstring issues. The injuries are not currently considered long-term, but Smith’s status matters considerably after Philadelphia moved on from A.J. Brown and positioned Smith as its leading receiver.

FAZE Action: Medical watch, not a panic downgrade.

NABERS IS PROGRESSING—BUT NOT CLEARED

Malik Nabers avoided opening camp on PUP and has reportedly looked good during his return work. However, he said July 30 that there was no established target date for his complete return from the ACL and meniscus injuries he suffered last season.

FAZE Action: The progress is positive, but his draft price must still account for recovery and possible early-season workload management.

Deebo Samuel — Pearsall’s season-ending injury and San Francisco’s additional receiver interruptions create immediate opportunity.

Los Angeles remains the division’s most stable premium fantasy ecosystem, led by Stafford, Nacua, Adams and Williams.

The biggest actionable development is in San Francisco, where Pearsall’s absence has permanently changed the passing-game allocation. The strongest emerging value is in Seattle, where Price has an opportunity to earn meaningful touches before Charbonnet returns. The backfield fantasy managers should approach most carefully is Arizona, where four runners remain capable of affecting one another’s weekly volume.
