WEEK 1 TOP 5

The questions fantasy managers need answered before the season begins

Monday, September 7, 2026

Week 1 is here, and the fantasy conversation has officially changed. Draft value is giving way to availability, workload and lineup decisions. Malik Nabers enters the week with one of the biggest unanswered questions in fantasy football, TreVeyon Henderson continues moving in the wrong direction, while Emeka Egbuka, Puka Nacua and George Kittle are giving fantasy managers increasingly encouraging signs. Here are the five developments that matter most right now.

1. MALIK NABERS — WEEK 1 QUESTION

Malik Nabers says he feels good. The Giants still aren't ready to say he'll play.

Nabers is working his way back from the ACL injury that ended his 2025 season, and his availability for Sunday night's opener against Dallas remains uncertain. Nabers has participated during the summer and recently took most of the Giants' team reps after joining one practice late, but both Nabers and head coach John Harbaugh have made it clear that there are still checkpoints to clear. New York is preparing for everything from a full Nabers workload to a limited role — or potentially no Nabers at all.

FANTASY IMPACT

This isn't just an active-or-inactive question. The workload matters.

Even if Nabers is cleared for Week 1, fantasy managers need to know whether the Giants believe he's ready for his normal role or whether his snaps and routes will be managed in his first regular-season game back.

If Nabers can't handle a full workload, the rest of the Giants' receiving corps would absorb additional opportunity.

FANTASY ACTION

Keep Nabers in your projected lineup for now, but don't treat his normal workload as guaranteed.

The first official practice reports of the week become important. Fantasy managers should be prepared with an alternative until New York gives us more clarity on both Nabers' availability and expected role.

FAZE TAKE

The encouraging part is that this isn't a new setback. Nabers has been progressing through a deliberate recovery process and says he feels good.

But Week 1 fantasy decisions aren't based on whether a player is close. They're based on whether he's ready to handle enough work to justify the lineup spot.

Nabers is a Week 1 watch until the Giants tell us otherwise.

2. TREVEYON HENDERSON — SITS AGAIN

Yesterday's concern just got stronger.

TreVeyon Henderson was not seen practicing again Monday as he continues dealing with the ankle injury that has kept him off the field since August 24. Henderson also missed Sunday's practice, and New England's opener against Seattle is now only days away.

FANTASY IMPACT

Every missed practice increases the possibility that Rhamondre Stevenson opens Week 1 with a substantially larger role.

This is no longer simply a preseason injury worth monitoring. The Patriots are preparing for an actual game, and Henderson still isn't participating.

FANTASY ACTION

Henderson managers need a Week 1 alternative ready. Stevenson managers should be paying attention.

Until Henderson returns to practice, FAZE is treating his Week 1 availability as a legitimate risk.

FAZE TAKE

Yesterday, Henderson led this board.

Today, he moves to No. 2 only because Nabers represents the larger league-wide Week 1 question — not because Henderson's situation improved.

It didn't.

Another missed practice pushes Henderson further in the wrong direction.

3. EMEKA EGBUKA — BACK AT PRACTICE

This is the update we wanted to see.

After dealing with a toe injury, Emeka Egbuka returned to practice Monday, an important step toward being available for Tampa Bay's Week 1 matchup against Cincinnati.

FANTASY IMPACT

Yesterday Egbuka was trending up based on the expectation that he would return.

Today we have something better: he actually practiced.

That's a meaningful distinction as fantasy managers prepare their first lineups of the season.

FANTASY ACTION

Egbuka is trending toward Week 1 availability.

Continue watching his participation level and final injury designation, but Monday's return moves the arrow firmly in the right direction.

FAZE TAKE

This is exactly what you want from an injury progression entering Week 1: less speculation, more participation.

Egbuka isn't completely cleared from the watchlist yet, but the concern is declining.

Trending up becomes back at practice. That's progress.

4. PUKA NACUA — ON TRACK FOR WEEK 1

The Puka Nacua concern is beginning to clear.

Rams head coach Sean McVay expects Nacua to be available for Thursday's season opener against San Francisco after the star receiver worked his way back from the groin issue that affected his preparation.

FANTASY IMPACT

For fantasy managers, the important development is straightforward: the Rams currently expect their WR1 to play.

That puts Nacua back on track to occupy the centerpiece role fantasy managers drafted him to fill.

FANTASY ACTION

Plan on starting Puka unless the Rams give us a reason to change course.

With a Thursday game, fantasy managers will receive an answer early. Keep an eye on the final injury report, but the current trajectory is positive.

FAZE TAKE

This is what Week 1 monitoring is supposed to do.

The groin issue created uncertainty. Continued progress reduced it. Now McVay is publicly expecting Nacua to be available.

Puka is moving off the concern list and toward the starting lineup.

5. GEORGE KITTLE — PRACTICING

George Kittle took another important step Monday.

Kittle was seen practicing with the 49ers in Australia as he continues his return from the Achilles injury that ended his 2025 postseason. His participation keeps him moving toward Thursday's opener against the Rams, although his eventual workload remains worth watching.

FANTASY IMPACT

The biggest concern surrounding Kittle has never been talent.

It's whether he'll be physically ready to resume enough of his normal role after a significant Achilles recovery.

Practicing this close to the opener is another positive checkpoint.

FANTASY ACTION

Keep Kittle in the Week 1 starting conversation.

The remaining question is workload. If San Francisco clears him without meaningful restrictions, fantasy managers should have little reason to overthink the decision.

FAZE TAKE

Kittle's recovery has required patience, but the direction continues to be positive.

There is still a difference between practicing and being ready for a normal George Kittle workload, so FAZE isn't declaring the entire concern gone yet.

But for now:

Kittle is moving toward Week 1, not away from it.

FINAL FAZE READ

The first real fantasy decisions of 2026 are beginning to take shape.

Malik Nabers is the biggest question. TreVeyon Henderson is the biggest concern. Emeka Egbuka is moving in the right direction. Puka Nacua is expected to play. George Kittle is practicing.

That's the transition from preseason fantasy football to the regular season. The question is no longer where these players should be drafted. It's whether they're available, what kind of workload they're going to receive, and whether fantasy managers can trust them in Week 1 lineups.

For Nabers and Henderson, we still need answers.

For Egbuka, Puka and Kittle, the arrows are pointing up.

Week 1 is here. Now the decisions count.
