Five Fantasy Decisions From Cutdown Sunday
PACKERS
1. GREEN BAY: JOSH JACOBS IS NOW UNAVAILABLE — AND THE BACKFIELD HAS CHANGED
Affected Players
What Happened
The NFL placed Josh Jacobs on the Commissioner's Exempt List Sunday after he was formally charged with misdemeanor battery and misdemeanor criminal damage to property stemming from a May incident. Jacobs has denied the allegations.
The designation is administrative. It is not a suspension or final disciplinary ruling. Jacobs continues to be paid, but he cannot practice or play while he remains on the list, and there is currently no announced timetable for how long that designation will last.
Green Bay also added another running back Sunday, acquiring Kaleb Johnson from Pittsburgh in exchange for a 2028 sixth-round pick. Johnson was a third-round selection in 2025 but handled only 28 carries for 69 yards during his rookie season.
Why It Matters
This is fundamentally different from the Jacobs story fantasy managers were evaluating several days ago.
Previously, the concern was whether league discipline might eventually affect his availability. Now Jacobs is actually unavailable to the Packers.
We still do not know whether that absence lasts one week, several weeks or longer, so projecting an exact number of missed games would be irresponsible. But drafting Jacobs at his old price as though nothing changed is no longer defensible.
MarShawn Lloyd now moves to the front of Green Bay's backfield. He worked with the starting offense throughout the preseason and enters the final stretch before Week 1 with the clearest path to lead-back work if Jacobs remains unavailable.
FAZE Take
The important distinction is that Jacobs has not been suspended. We should not invent a suspension length or assume the Commissioner's Exempt List automatically becomes six games, eight games or anything else.
What has changed is the assumption underneath his draft value.
Fantasy managers can no longer price Jacobs as a player expected to be available for 17 games. His uncertainty has moved from hypothetical to real, and that has to change where he belongs on a draft board.
Lloyd becomes considerably more valuable because volume is suddenly available, but his own durability history keeps him from becoming a risk-free replacement. Green Bay's decision to acquire Johnson matters for the same reason. The Packers added another healthy back because uncertainty now exists at the top of the room.

2. ARIZONA: JAMES CONNER WILL MISS AT LEAST FOUR GAMES
Affected Players
What Happened
Arizona placed James Conner on injured reserve with a designation to return Sunday as he continues recovering from the foot/ankle injury that ended his 2025 season.
The move guarantees Conner will miss at least Arizona's first four games.
That would normally strengthen the case for No. 3 overall pick Jeremiyah Love, but Love is still working back from the high-ankle sprain he suffered during his preseason debut. Recent reporting indicates his recovery is progressing positively, but Week 1 should not yet be treated as guaranteed.
Tyler Allgeier remains the healthy veteran positioned to handle significant work if Love cannot open the season at full strength.
Why It Matters
Arizona entered August with one of the deeper running-back rooms in football. It exits August with Conner guaranteed to miss the opening month and Love recovering from one of the more troublesome lower-body injuries for a running back.
That immediately increases Allgeier's importance.
Love remains the player Arizona invested the third overall pick in, and nothing about Conner's move changes his long-term ceiling. The question is whether Love can immediately handle a normal workload after a high-ankle sprain or whether Arizona needs Allgeier to bridge the early part of the season.
FAZE Take
Conner going to injured reserve actually simplifies one part of this backfield while making Love's health even more important.
There is no longer a realistic September scenario where fantasy managers have to divide touches among Love, Allgeier and a healthy Conner. Conner is out.
The mistake would be using that information to automatically increase Love's projected workload. A returning player and a fully healthy player are not always the same thing, especially at running back.
Love's progress is encouraging. It is not permission to ignore the injury.
That gives Allgeier two paths to fantasy relevance: immediate insurance if Love is unavailable or limited, and meaningful complementary work while Arizona brings its rookie back toward a full workload.

3. SEATTLE: ZACH CHARBONNET IS OUT FOR THE OPENING MONTH
Affected Players
What Happened
Seattle kept Zach Charbonnet on the reserve/PUP list Sunday as he continues recovering from ACL surgery.
That guarantees Charbonnet will miss at least the first four regular-season games.
Seattle's opening backfield now includes first-round rookie Jadarian Price, George Holani and Emanuel Wilson, with Brady Russell at fullback.
The Seahawks' own roster analysis says Price and Holani figure to split the workload early.
That distinction matters.
Why It Matters
Price was already one of the more interesting rookie running backs in fantasy drafts after Seattle invested first-round capital in him. Charbonnet's PUP designation now removes one significant source of early-season competition and guarantees Price will enter September with an opportunity to establish himself.
But opportunity does not automatically mean monopoly.
Holani made the roster with a legitimate role and experience in Seattle's system. The Seahawks themselves are describing an early split rather than handing Price an every-down job.
Fantasy managers should raise Price because his path has improved, not because they have invented a workload Seattle has not promised.
FAZE Take
This is exactly the kind of cutdown decision that should move a fantasy draft board.
Charbonnet is not questionable. He is not working toward Week 1. He is unavailable for at least four games.
That increases Price's value immediately. His first-round draft capital, talent and clearer path to touches give him real breakout potential.
The adjustment should still be controlled.
Holani's expected involvement prevents us from simply writing 20 touches per game into Price's projection. Price gets the opportunity to take control of this backfield. He still has to earn it.
And if he does, Charbonnet could return to a very different depth chart than the one Seattle envisioned earlier in the offseason.

4. HOUSTON: TANK DELL WILL MISS THE FIRST FOUR GAMES
Affected Players
What Happened
Houston placed Tank Dell on injured reserve Sunday with a designation to return as he continues recovering from the severe knee injury he suffered late in the 2024 season.
Dell must miss at least the first four regular-season games and will not be eligible to return until Week 5.
Houston also continued reshaping its receiver room at final cuts. Sterling Shepard and Justin Watson were released, while Nico Collins, Xavier Hutchinson, Kayshon Boutte, Jaylin Noel and Jared Wayne remain in the active September picture.
The Texans had already lost Jayden Higgins for the season, so the competition behind Collins is substantially cleaner than it appeared several weeks ago.
Why It Matters
Collins remains the obvious WR1.
Sunday's decisions matter because they help define who will get the opportunities behind him.
Boutte arrived in Houston via trade late in August and immediately became more interesting because injuries had already changed the receiver room. Dell's IR designation now guarantees those early-season snaps and routes have to go somewhere else.
Noel remains a strong candidate for slot work. Hutchinson remains part of the competition. Boutte provides an outside option opposite Collins.
The final roster does not tell us exactly which player becomes Houston's No. 2 fantasy receiver.
It does tell us there are fewer players standing between them and meaningful September snaps.
FAZE Take
This is where fantasy managers need to distinguish path from projection.
Dell missing four games does not mean Boutte automatically receives Dell's target share. Higgins being gone does not mean Noel suddenly becomes a weekly fantasy starter.
What Houston gave us Sunday is something simpler and more useful: fewer obstacles.
Boutte, Noel and Hutchinson are now competing for real September opportunities rather than theoretical preseason work.
Boutte is particularly interesting because Houston specifically traded for him after injuries began reshaping this room. That does not guarantee production. It does make him relevant.

5. SAN FRANCISCO: CHRISTIAN KIRK WILL MISS TIME, BUT GEORGE KITTLE STILL HAS A WEEK 1 CHANCE
Affected Players
What Happened
San Francisco designated Christian Kirk for injured reserve Sunday because of the calf issue that kept him out throughout training camp.
That removes Kirk from the 49ers' early-season receiving rotation while preserving the opportunity for him to return later.
San Francisco's active receiver group includes Mike Evans, Deebo Samuel Sr., rookie De'Zhaun Stribling, Demarcus Robinson, Jordan Watkins and Jacob Cowing.
There was better news at tight end.
George Kittle, continuing his recovery from January's Achilles tear, is expected to practice this week and still has a chance to play in San Francisco's Week 1 opener against the Rams in Australia.
Why It Matters
Kirk's absence makes the September receiver hierarchy easier to project.
Evans remains the primary outside receiver. Samuel returns to an offense that already understands how to use his versatility. Removing Kirk from the early-season competition gives Stribling and the secondary receivers a clearer path to rotational snaps.
But Kittle is the larger swing variable.
If he is ready for Week 1, San Francisco still has its elite middle-of-the-field target alongside Evans, Samuel and Christian McCaffrey.
If his Achilles recovery requires additional time, the target distribution changes considerably.
FAZE Take
Kirk's injured-reserve placement should create a modest opportunity adjustment, not a ranking overreaction.
Evans did not become a different player Sunday. Samuel did not suddenly inherit a guaranteed target total. What changed is that one established receiver is no longer competing with them for September routes.
Kittle requires the same discipline.
It would be a mistake to assume he is completely healthy because he may practice this week. It would also be a mistake to treat him as unavailable when San Francisco has kept the Week 1 possibility alive.
Practicing this week would represent another significant step in an aggressive Achilles recovery.
Until we see that workload, hold the evaluation rather than forcing certainty in either direction.

FINAL FAZE READ
Cutdown Sunday changed fantasy boards more than most preseason games did.
Josh Jacobs is the clearest example. Several days ago, fantasy managers were debating whether league discipline might eventually affect his availability. Today, he cannot practice or play while on the Commissioner's Exempt List. We still do not know how long that lasts, but the uncertainty has moved from hypothetical to real, and MarShawn Lloyd's opportunity changes with it.
Arizona and Seattle gave us similarly concrete information. Conner is guaranteed to miss the first four games, while Charbonnet cannot return during Seattle's opening month. Those are not projections. Those are roster designations. The uncertainty lies in how the replacement touches are divided — Allgeier around Love's recovery in Arizona and Price/Holani in Seattle — which is exactly where fantasy managers should focus next.
Houston's final receiver room also became easier to understand. Dell is unavailable early, Higgins is already lost for the season, and veteran competitors have been removed. That does not hand Boutte or Noel a guaranteed target share, but their paths to meaningful snaps are substantially clearer than they were earlier in camp.
San Francisco offers the final lesson. Kirk is unavailable, but Kittle could still be ready. Fantasy managers should use what teams have actually decided while resisting the urge to fill every remaining uncertainty with an assumption.
Monday brings the next information wave. Waiver claims are processed at 1 p.m. ET on August 31, followed by another round of roster movement and practice-squad construction. Some of the players who were cut Sunday will quickly land in new situations, which could create additional depth-chart movement before Week 1 preparation fully begins.
FAZE Bottom Line: Cutdown day separates speculation from reality. Draft around confirmed absences, raise players whose paths have genuinely opened, and do not manufacture certainty where a team has not provided it.
The preseason is over.
From here forward, availability and actual Week 1 roles matter more than anything that happened in an August box score.
